China’s C&U Group to expand Batangas footprint

China’s largest bearing manufacturer is significantly scaling up its presence in the Philippines, committing an estimated US$219 million (₱13.54 billion) for the expansion of its Batangas facility and the development of a new industrial park aimed at strengthening its global production network.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), through Secretary Ma. Cristina A. Roque, confirmed that C&U Group’s expansion plan underscores the Philippines’ growing role as a strategic manufacturing hub for the company’s international operations.

Roque said the investment roadmap was presented during her meeting with C&U Group chairman Zhang Tongsheng and company executives in Shanghai, China last May 24.

She welcomed the continued expansion, emphasizing government support for export-oriented manufacturing and long-term industrial investments in the country.

The company’s second-phase expansion at the Light Industry & Science Park III (LISP III) in Sto. Tomas, Batangas is targeted for completion by the end of 2026. Once finished, total investments in the facility are expected to reach US$132 million (₱8.16 billion).

C&U Group also provided updates on its planned Alitagtag Industrial Park, also located in Batangas, which will be developed through Evergreen Light Singapore Incorporated.

The upcoming industrial estate is expected to serve as the company’s international production base for bearings and related components. Its first phase is projected to be completed within three to five years, covering around 20 hectares spanning Alitagtag and portions of Bauan and San Pascual.

The development will include two manufacturing plants along with supporting infrastructure such as residential areas, power facilities, and environmental protection systems. The initial phase alone carries an estimated investment of US$87 million (₱5.37 billion).

C&U Group currently operates eight production parks worldwide and is developing another in China, while continuing to expand its Philippine operations to support its global supply chain and customers. TRACY CABRERA
