Berong Nickel Corporation (BNC), a subsidiary of DMCI Mining, has signed a mineral production sharing agreement (MPSA) with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) for its Long Point property in Aborlan, Palawan.
The deal, inked on August 8, covers 2,177.34 hectares and grants BNC exclusive rights to explore, develop, and utilize mineral resources in the area for an initial 25-year term, renewable for another 25 years upon MGB registration.
“We will work closely with our host communities to ensure development goes hand in hand with environmental stewardship and inclusive growth,” said DMCI Mining President Tulsi Das Reyes, citing the company’s track record in rehabilitating its Berong mine in Quezon.
The Long Point mine, which has an environmental compliance certificate for 1 million wet metric tons of annual production, is expected to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2025 and generate over 1,000 jobs, prioritizing local indigenous and nearby communities.
Since 2024, DMCI has poured about P1 billion into the project for fleet expansion, port facilities, exploration, and pre-operating costs.
