World-famous Filipino premium rum Don Papa Rum is inviting Filipino artists to reimagine and reinterpret its award-winning label and design its secondary packaging by joining the 2016 Don Papa Rum Art Competition.
Now on its second year and officially launched this month, the contest is open to all Filipino artists, 21 years and older, who have participated in an art exhibit at least once (as an individual or with a group) and/or represented by an art gallery in the Philippines.
The challenge is simple: reimagine an artwork that encapsulates an original interpretation of the magic-realist world of Sugarlandia, based on the island of Negros, home to the country’s finest sugar canes that give Don Papa Rum its signature flavor; Papa Isio, who inspired the revolutionary brand; and everyone’s premium rum brand that elevates the amber liquid into a celebrated luxury drink.
Entries can be in the form of a painting or drawing, photograph, print making, and typography. The top 10 entries will be exhibited at the 2017 Art Fair Philippines.
In addition to getting an exclusive opportunity to stamp his or her design on limited-edition canisters of Don Papa Rum that will be distributed here and abroad, this year’s winner will win an all-expense paid four-week artistic ambassadorship sojourn in Florence, Italy, complete with round-trip airfare tickets, allowances and accommodations by Don Papa, including entrance passes to top museums in Florence to draw inspiration from the world’s best art and design galleries.
“Don Papa Rum aims to cultivate and honor Filipinos’ creativity and passion for the arts. We are looking forward to witness how Filipino artists will reflect and embody Don Papa Rum’s passion for quality, heritage, and authenticity through their artworks,” said Monica Llamas-Garcia, Don Papa Rum co-founder and head of brand and communications.
