The Department of Transportation (DoTr) will start 75 new airport development projects to build new gateways that is part of government’s “Build, Build, Build” program, according to Transportation Secretary Arthur P. Tugade.
The DoTr said the procurement and bidding processes are ongoing for these airport projects that include a new Admin Building and upgrade of the airfield ground lighting system at Clark International Airport.
Airports in Quezon, Ilocos Sur, Batanes, Aurora, Oriental Mindoro, Camarines Sur, Leyte, and Marinduque are part of the massive overhaul.
Transportation Assistant Secretary Goddes Hope Libiran said the Department works round-the-clock to deliver significant changes before President Rodrigo Duterte steps down in 2022.
To date, the DoTr has completed 121 airport projects while 114 are ongoing.
Earlier, the Manila International Airport Authority indicated it might independently pursue the long-overdue rehabilitation of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), saying redeveloping the NAIA on its own is a “more practical approach, rather than wait on the approval of unsolicited proposals,” said Tugade.
