Movement of vehicles along Quezon Avenue – east bound will significantly improve with the opening of two additional vehicular lanes on top of a completed P87.69 million flood control structure.
Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar formally opens on Friday, the 522 lineal meters additional service road over the newly constructed reinforced concrete box culvert from Timog Avenue to Scout Borromeo Street in Quezon City.
The department implemented the 24/7 construction scheme in line with the efforts to fast-track infrastructure development and to ease traffic condition in the area.
“The flood control project, involves the construction of reinforced concrete box culvert that increased the capacity of Anaran Creek for effective mitigation of perennial flooding at South Triangle area particularly at Mother Ignacia Avenue and Panay Avenue,” Villar said.
“The old open channel of 2.40 meters width by 4.30 meters deep from Timog Avenue to Scout Borromeo Street was replaced by a reinforced concrete box culvert with 5.30 meters width by 4.35 meters deep,” he added.
The six-meter width top slab of the box culvert was converted into an additional two lane service road.
With the completion of Timog Avenue to Scout Borromeo Street segment, DPWH will continue to step-up and take advantage of the good weather in completing the similar activities at the 583 lineal meters on-going segment from Scout Borromeo Street to Sgt. Esguerra Street.
Meanwhile, Villar announced that two additional lanes along the Napindan Bridge 2 connecting the boundaries of Taguig and Pateros will be open to traffic by July.
The opening of the additional lanes is part of the installment for the Laguna Lake Highway Project which is projected to reduce the travel time from Taytay to Bicutan.
“We are currently on the last stretch of the construction. Final inspection as to the structural integrity, safety aspect of the bridge has already commenced,” Villar said.
The rehabilitation of Napindan Bridge 2 also includes the construction of a three-meter bike lane to ensure accessibility to more individuals.
“Increasing the mobility of individuals entails not only the construction of roads and highways. It is high time those pedestrian infrastructures are seamlessly integrated to our road network,” Villar said.
The completion of the two additional lanes is expected to decongest major thoroughfares like C5 and EDSA.
