DTI extends P4.22M in loans to women entrepreneurs under WEF

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), through its financing arm Small Business Corporation (SBCorp), has disbursed a total of P4.22 million in loans to 24 women entrepreneurs under the Women’s Enterprise Fund (WEF), aimed at empowering women-owned small businesses across the country.

The initial batch of recipients will use the loans to start or expand their ventures, including variety stores, garment businesses, pharmacies, beauty salons, cafés, and restaurants.

DTI said the funding forms part of the initial P8 billion allotment under the WEF program, sourced from SBCorp’s Resilient, Innovative, and Sustainable Enterprises, Unleash your Powers (RISE UP) facility. SBCorp has earmarked P1 billion specifically for the WEF initiative.

The program offers collateral-free loans of up to P5 million. For loans exceeding that amount and up to P20 million, borrowers will pay a 1% monthly interest on a diminishing balance, with a repayment term of up to five years.

During the program’s ceremonial launch on Thursday, Trade Secretary Cristina Roque emphasized WEF’s alignment with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s push to create more local employment opportunities.

“This program supports the President’s vision of helping Filipinos find sustainable livelihoods here at home, so they no longer feel the need to seek jobs abroad,” Roque said.

She encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs to make the most of limited resources, drawing inspiration from those who have already succeeded with the help of government support.

“Sometimes, having little is an advantage—because it teaches us to be resourceful, strategic, and determined to grow what we have,” Roque added.

WEF is part of the government’s broader strategy to boost women’s participation in entrepreneurship and economic development through accessible financing and tailored support.
