The powerful quake hit roughly 14 kilometers northwest of Surigao City, at about 10:03 p.m. (9:03 a.m. ET), according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology. At least 30 aftershocks have rattled the surrounding areas in the hours following the quake, the Institute measured.
The damaged road sections are: Surigao-Ipil-Lipata Section, Surigao-Agusan Section, Malico Bridge, Kinabutan Bridge I and II along Daang Maharlika road in Surigao del Norte; Sections of Surigao Wharf Road, Surigao-San Juan Coastal Road Friendship Bridge, Banahaw Bridge, Surigao-Davao Coastal Road, and Magpayang-Mainit Wharf Road.
The Anao-aon Bridge under the Provincial Road of Surigao del Norte located in the Municipality of San Francisco had collapsed and closed to traffic.
DPWH personnel were deployed on site for augmentation purposes and help in the on-going installation of a temporary timber bridge.
Construction of new bridge is estimated to worth P115 million.
