Travelers bound for Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminals 1 and 2 can now reach them faster with the opening of the Naia Expressway Phase II Project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Sept. 22. The elevated expressway connects Naia Terminals 1 and 2 from Diosdado Macapagal Avenue in Pasay City and serves as a faster route instead of going through the highly congested Aurora Boulevard, Airport Road, Domestic Road and Naia Road. Elevated Naia Expressway (Phase 2) now open to motorists

Public Works Secretary Mark A. Villar led the first batch of motorists to drive through the new elevated expressway that connects Diosdado Macapagal Avenue in Pasay City to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminals 1 and 2 in Parañaque City in a simple last Thursday.

“We made a commitment to open this segment today. We wanted to ensure it is fully functional the first minute of Sept. 22,” Villar said.

“With all systems in place, the operational segment of the Naia Expressway will effectively improve traffic flow in the airport vicinity and cut travel time by at least 60 percent,” he added.

Villar vowed to complete the last segment of the P20.45-billion expressway, which would connect Naia Terminals 1, 2, and 3 to the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) before Christmas.

“The DPWH [Department of Public Works and Highways] would ensure 24/7 operation in the last segment of the Naia Expressway,” Villar said.

“The Duterte administration is conscious of delivering its promise. We will set deadlines, and contractors would have to abide,” he added.

The expressway has four lanes, measures 12.65 km (including ramps), and has a 2.22-km at-grade road traversing Sales and Andrews avenues, Parañaque River, Manila International Airport Authority (Miaa) Road, and Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard.

Once all phases of its construction are completed, the expressway is expected to provide easy access to and from Naia Terminals 1, 2, 3, and 4, and will connect to SLEx through the Sales Interchange, Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway, and Macapagal Boulevard.

A total of 16 off-and-on ramps are being constructed along strategic locations at Villamor Airbase, Resorts World Manila hotel, Naia Terminal 3, Miaa Road, Imelda Avenue, Cavitex, Seaside Drive, and Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard.
