The Philippine Basketball Association fined Blackwater P100,000 for breaching health protocols when the Elite conducted a practice session as a team.
Commissioner Willie Marcial directed the Elite to pay the fine after team owner Dioceldo Sy admitted in an interview that his players already resumed training as a team. Sy also revealed that he is selling the team for P150 million.
The admission did not go well with Marcial who announced that health regulated practices should start July 22. The health protocol calls for compulsory swab testing for everyone on each team.
The Games and Amusement Board agreed with the PBA in penalizing Blackwater for breaking protocols, according to its chairman Bam Mitra.
Sy aired his frustration against the PBA after denying his request for a 50% pay cut for his players.
“I’m through with the PBA,” he said, subsequently announcing the sale of the team.
