ERC OKs new charge to fund green energy projects

Power consumers will see a slight increase in their electricity bills starting January 2026, as the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) approved a new charge of ₱0.0371 per kilowatt-hour to fund the Green Energy Auction Allowance (GEA-All).

The new charge stems from the National Transmission Corporation’s (TransCo) request to establish a funding mechanism for power plants awarded under the government’s Green Energy Auction (GEA) program.

ERC Director Sharon Montañer explained during a Friday briefing that GEA-All functions similarly to the existing Feed-In Tariff Allowance (FIT-All), as it will also be collected from all customers connected to the power grid. The full amount, she said, will be remitted to TransCo, which manages the fund.

Following its approval, the ERC has directed distribution utilities, retail electricity suppliers, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, and the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines to submit the necessary records for the GEA-All audit.

Under the rules, all collection agents must remit the complete GEA-All proceeds to TransCo no later than the 15th of the month following each billing period.
