In the wake of Mount Kanlaon’s eruption last June 3, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is prepared to offer emergency loans to GSIS members and pensioners affected by the disaster, once the affected places are officially declared as calamity areas.
Eligible members and pensioners with existing loans can borrow up to P40,000, allowing them to clear their current balance and receive a net amount of P20,000. Those without existing emergency loans can avail of up to P20,000.
To qualify, active members must be based in the declared calamity area, not on unpaid leave, have no pending legal cases, have paid premiums within the last six months, and maintain a net take-home pay of at least P5,000 as required by the General Appropriations Act. Old-age and disability pensioners in the affected zones may also apply, provided their net monthly pension remains at least 25% post-loan.
With a low interest rate of 6% and a three-year repayment term, this emergency loan offers a viable financial relief option. Applications can be conveniently submitted via the GSIS Touch mobile app, available on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
