HP WILL REOPEN IN 2027 AS SM HP

70’s and 80’s kids, who are now grown up, will soon relive their memories of the old Harrison Plaza as it is set to open next year.

SM Prime Holdings is bringing back one of Manila’s most storied retail addresses, this time with a far bigger bet.

The Sy-led property giant said it is pouring more than ₱6 billion into the redevelopment of the old Harrison Plaza complex, with a new flagship SM mall targeted to open in 2027 on the historic site in Manila.

SM Harrison Plaza, will rise on the former home of Harrison Plaza, the shopping center that opened in 1976 and is widely remembered as the country’s first one-stop mall. Once completed, the new development will offer more than 200,000 square meters of gross floor area, putting it in the same league as large-format SM malls such as SM City Davao and SM City Clark.

SM Prime said the project forms part of its broader ₱150-billion mall investment program for 2026 to 2030, which covers the redevelopment of 16 existing malls and the construction of 12 to 15 new lifestyle malls across the country.

In a statement, SM Supermalls President Steven Tan said the new Harrison Plaza will feature nature-inspired design, open layouts, green spaces, and community areas meant to host cultural and social activities. He said the mall will strengthen SM’s presence in Manila’s cultural and entertainment district while serving office workers, students, and residents in nearby Malate and Ermita.

Given its location near Manila Bay, the Cultural Center of the Philippines complex, Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, Manila Zoo, and several hotels, SM Harrison Plaza is also being positioned as a retail and lifestyle destination for both local and foreign tourists.

The mall’s tenant mix will combine global brands with local retailers to reflect the character of the area. Beyond retail, the company expects the project to create thousands of jobs during construction and operations, while helping drive the continued renewal of Manila’s old city center.
