For Imelda Papin, singing has been a career, and now, a therapy.
Who wouldn’t wonder that for a grandma like her, music is an eternal passion and a panacea to all worries in her life, shrugging and smiling them off.
In her latest gig, “Imelda Papin Birthday Special” held at the Newport Performing Arts Theater at the Resorts World Manila, Papin showed everyone that age doesn’t matter in music.
The more one indulges in singing, the more one gets younger.
Imagine Asia’s Sentimental Songstress gyrating onstage, throwing her weight around literally, bumping her hips to and fro, swaying her arms in wild abandon while reaching the highest notes in her every piece like covering Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” yet she came alive and was left unscathed.
Imelda is indeed a survivor.
Singers come and go but La Papin has remained in the running and a winner in the game.
When she rendered her signature songs like “Bakit Ikaw Pa?” “Isang Linggong Pag-ibig,” “Bakit?”, among others, she was like a fresh talent.
They brought the house down.
No wonder she still gives other chanteuses a run for the vocal pitches. (Boy Villasanta)
