Lawmakers, transport leader bat for TNVS regulation

Lawmakers and a transport leader called for the regulation of the Transport Network Vehicle System (TNVS) industry during a media forum in Quezon City on February 4.

House Deputy Majority Leader Cong. Jose ‘Bong’ Teves Jr. supported a proposal for a law regulating TNVS, emphasizing that such legislation should not be affected by leadership changes at the LTFRB.

Teves also advocated for VAT exemptions on medicines and expanding PhilHealth coverage for all illnesses.

Cong. Bong Suntay, President of the Philippine National Taxi Operators Association, backed the regulation, citing the need to rationalize the transport sector and lessen conflicts between traditional taxis and TNVS.

Leonardo “Jun” De Leon, President of Laban TNVS, highlighted the burden of the mandatory 20% discount for students and PWDs, which drivers currently shoulder.

He called for operators, like Grab, to take on this cost and urged Congress to pass a law institutionalizing TNVS.
