Senator Loren Legarda on Thursday reaffirmed her commitment to environmental protection as she participated in the annual Earth Month celebration this April, highlighting the importance of unified action in addressing the climate crisis.
She stressed the urgent need for a collective shift toward renewable energy and clean electricity by 2030, describing these as essential steps for achieving a more sustainable and equitable future.
Aligned with this year’s International Mother Earth Day theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” the senator emphasized the significance of collective responsibility in combating the escalating impacts of climate change—ranging from rising global temperatures and unpredictable rainfall to stronger typhoons and rising sea levels.
“As we mark Earth Month and International Mother Earth Day this April, we are reminded that safeguarding the environment is a shared responsibility,” Legarda stated in a news release.
“Every small action matters, and every choice we make today will shape the future for our children and generations to come,” she added.
With the country facing increasing summer heat, Legarda urged the public to adopt more sustainable and energy-conscious lifestyles, recommending actions such as unplugging unused appliances and, where possible, transitioning to solar-powered devices to conserve energy.
