Lenovo unveils new Vibe On campaign, Vibe Shot smartphone

Lenovo Philippines, the local subsidiary of the Chinese computer-technology and smartphone giant, launched recently its new Vibe On campaign, which aims to boost people’s awareness of its smartphones, the latest of which is the Lenovo Vibe Shot, which boasts of, among others, a 16-megapixel main camera and a 5-inch full high-definition screen.

In a statement, Lenovo said the campaign is “an extension of (the company’s) overarching master brand position, predicated on the belief that life rewards those (who) never stand still.”

The company also said the Vibe On brand is mainly targeted at Millennials, and promises to “empower them to go their own way by providing smartphones with the latest technology and features that they care about, at a price they wouldn’t expect.”

“Consumers nowadays are increasingly savvy and price-conscious. Most of them are discerning enough to trade ‘good-to-have’ features for products that offer outstanding value,” said Dino Romano, country head of Lenovo Smartphones, Philippines.

“The Vibe On promise emphasizes our belief in making cutting-edge technologies with innovative designs, but a price that is not expensive and exclusive,” he added.

The design philosophy behind Lenovo’s Vibe series of smartphones is embodied across three main product pillars: a seamless camera experience, enhanced multimedia capabilities, and an adaptive Vibe user interface.

Lenovo cited as an great example the Vibe Shot, which “offers the best of both worlds by combining a premium 4G smartphone with a high-performance camera that incorporates advanced ‘prosumer’ hardware and features that budding and seasoned photographers will love.”

“It is a stylish and powerful smartphone that consumers want, and (has) an advanced camera that budding and seasoned photographers will love to use,” Romano said in a separate statement.

Fine features

During the campaign and smartphone’s launch at the Art in Island 3D museum in Quezon City on July 29, Vincent dela Cruz, marketing manager of Lenovo Smartphones, explained in detail the many features of the dual-SIM (subscriber identity module) Vibe Shot, which measures 142 by 70.4 millimeters, is 7.6 mm thick; weighs 145 grams; and has a full aluminum outer frame and Corning Gorilla glass at the front and back.

The smartphone, dela Cruz said, has a dedicated shutter button that users can press to quickly activate the camera function. Lenovo claims its on-board infrared auto-focusing system is twice as fast as an ordinary autofocus, while the tri-color light-emitting diode (LED) flash ensures that skin tones would be more realistic.

In addition, Vibe Shot’s superior low-light performance and clarity in capturing images at night or in darker interiors are supported by a 16:9 backside-illuminated (BSI) sensor, while its optical-image stabilization technology reduces blurring.

When using the smartphone’s camera, one can easily shift between its Auto and Pro modes. Dela Cruz said the former has what’s called the Smart Composition function, which incorporates automatic scene detection and onscreen “point and shoot” guidance, while the latter gives the user manual controls, like aperture, shutter speed and ISO settings.

A notable feature is the “panoramic selfie,” which lets users take three selfies and turn them into one that includes more people.

The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, which is engineered for multitasking and  to be extremely power-efficient. It also has three gigabytes (GB) of random-access memory (RAM) and 32 GB of built-in storage that can be expanded up to 128 GB with a microSD card, as well as 4G/long-term evolution (LTE) support that allows users to browse the Internet and play online games smoothly.

The Vibe Shot was first made available through online-selling and shopping site Lazada on July 31, selling it for P16,999. Lenovo Mobile stores and authorized retailers will sell the smartphone for P17,999 beginning mid-August. Alvin I. Dacanay
