Mac-using moviemakers called to join Cinemansanas

Are you passionate about telling stories through film? Do you use Mac gadgets to apply your budding or well-honed audiovisual and narrative skills? Then top Apple reseller Power Mac Center is looking for filmmakers like you to join its recently launched Cinemansanas.

This digital short-film contest is the second installment of Pixelworx, Power Mac Center’s advocacy to recognize convention-breaking artists of all types and celebrate them with activities that include workshops, live demonstrations, and an art challenge.

Entries to Cinemansanas must reflect the contest theme—“Designing for a Bold New World”—and may either be a short documentary or fictional narrative, as long as they’re original, and are shot and edited using Apple devices.

The competition has two main categories: student, open to high school and college students; and professional, which only local residents can join. Finalists in both categories will qualify for the People’s Choice award.

That’s not all. Student entries are automatically eligible to compete for the Adobo Design Awards Asia (Adaa) Open/Theme category: Digital Short Film prize (student divison), while those behind the professional entries need to pay P500 (exclusive of 12-percent value-added tax) to participate in their division.

The student-category and professional-category Diamond Award winners will receive P30,000 and P50,000 worth of Power Mac Center gift cards, respectively.

The runners-up in both categories will also get Power Mac Center gift cards and products. Meanwhile, special prizes await the winners of the Adaa and People’s Choice awards.

The deadline for submission of entries is on Mar. 20.

Workshops

Like last year, Cinemansanas is offering workshops led by Pixelworx ambassadors Mario Cornejo and Monster Jimenez for film production (Feb. 13 and 14, Greenbelt 3, 2 to 6 p.m.), Ricky Lee for scriptwriting (Feb. 27 and 28, TriNoma, 2 to 6 p.m.), Yam Laranas for cinematography (Mar. 12 and 13, Greenbelt 3, 2 to 6 p.m.), and Erik Matti for directing (Mar. 19 to 20, TriNoma, 2 to 6 p.m.).

Also offered are live demos of apps used for filmmaking at select Power Mac Center stores. These are digital filmmaking with iMovie, musical scoring with GarageBand, and Final Cut Pro X for Mac OS.
