Manila Archdiocese calls for prayers ahead of papal conclave

The Archdiocese of Manila has urged the faithful to offer prayers for the upcoming election of the next leader of the Catholic Church.

In Circular No. 2025–31 released Friday, the archdiocese invited Catholics to pray for the College of Cardinals, who are set to convene at the Vatican next week to elect the 267th pope.

“We request you to enjoin the faithful to participate in the celebration of the Eucharist, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Liturgy of the Hours, personal prayer, and the praying of the rosary in solidarity with the whole Church,” the circular stated.

The archdiocese also instructed that a special “Prayer for the Election of a Pope” be recited after the Post-Communion Prayer in all Masses beginning the evening of May 3, 2025, until a new pope is chosen.

“On Wednesday, 7 May 2025, the beginning of the conclave, our Masses in our parishes and communities will be ‘For the Election of a Pope’,” the circular added.

The election follows the passing of Pope Francis on April 21 at the age of 88.
