Operations of MRT-3 and LRT-2 will be extended to accommodate late night shoppers and workers during the holiday rush.
Transport Secretary Jaime J. Bautista said they are expecting the usual traffic during Christmas season.
“Alam natin na yung holiday season will create traffic. Posible na dagdagan namin yung operations ng MRT-3,” Sec. Bautista said.
“We can extend it up to 11 in the evening. We’ll have to see,” he added.
Before the holidays, MRT-3 operates from North Ave. Station from 4:30 AM to 9:30 PM, while its end station along Taft Ave. starts operations at 5:05 AM until its last trip at 10:09 PM.
On the other hand, the LRT-2 operations begins operations at 5 AM, with last trips ending at 9 PM at Antipolo Station and 9.30 PM in Recto Station.
Sec. Bautista deemed it necessary to extend the two rail lines’ operations as passenger traffic is being complemented by the EDSA Busway.
“It can be supplemented by the EDSA Busway,” he explained.
On the other hand, extending operations of the LRT-1 rail line will be upon the discretion of its operator, the Light Rail Manila Corp.
“Pinagaaralan nila yan kung i-extend,” Sec. Bautista said.
