Prices of candles and other basic necessities remain stable ahead of “Undas” despite increased seasonal demand, according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
Trade Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque said the agency continues to monitor the prices and availability of goods commonly purchased for All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, with no price movements reported so far.
The DTI is also coordinating with manufacturers to ensure sufficient supplies of basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPCs), including canned sardines, canned meat, coffee, processed milk, instant noodles, condiments, soap, salt, batteries, bottled water, and bread.
Roque said manufacturers have committed to maintaining stable prices, while the agency plans to visit sardine and canned meat production facilities to check inventory levels and supply conditions.
The trade chief also reported sufficient bottled water supplies despite increased demand amid the El Niño phenomenon.
A water production facility recently visited by the DTI can manufacture around 65,000 bottles per hour, Roque said, adding that the company operates nearly 200 similar facilities nationwide and maintains its own logistics network.
The agency said continued monitoring and coordination with producers would help ensure that consumers have access to essential goods without unnecessary price increases during the Undas period.
