Over P10-M worth of shabu intercepted at Port of Clark

Customs officers at the Port of Clark have intercepted a shipment containing P10.2 million worth of shabu, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) announced Friday.

Port of Clark District Collector Jairus Reyes said the illegal drugs were concealed inside four aluminum tubes, weighing approximately 1.5 kg.

The shipment, which originated from the United States, was misdeclared as a “Black Vinyl Window Made Out of PVC.”

During an initial review of advance shipment documents on January 19, customs personnel flagged the package for further inspection. When it arrived the following day, it underwent x-ray screening by the X-ray Inspection Project (XIP), which detected suspicious images.

A subsequent physical examination revealed that the shipment contained a black vinyl window with tempered glass, inside which the four aluminum tubes filled with shabu were discovered.

Authorities from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Office III, the Philippine National Police (PNP) Aviation Security Group, PNP Drug Enforcement Group III, the National Bureau of Investigation-Pampanga, and local barangay officials of Dau conducted a joint inspection of the package.

“This successful operation highlights our dedication in safeguarding our borders through increased vigilance and close cooperation with our partner agencies,” Reyes said.

The BOC has issued a warrant of seizure and detention against the shipment for violations of Republic Act (RA) 10863, or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, in relation to RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
