The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has emphasized the urgent need for the gaming industry’s regulatory framework to evolve alongside rapid technological advancements, specifically artificial intelligence (AI). Speaking at the CiG iDEA Summit at Newport World Resorts, PAGCOR Assistant Vice President Atty. Jessa Mariz Fernandez noted that while AI offers powerful tools to detect fraud, improve compliance, and streamline regulatory processes, it can also be exploited to make illegal activities more sophisticated.
Atty. Fernandez stressed that regulators must adapt rather than resist, stating that tomorrow’s technology cannot be effectively managed using yesterday’s assumptions. To address these complex risks, PAGCOR is actively reviewing its policies, engaging with legitimate industry stakeholders, and strengthening inter-agency coordination to ensure regulations remain responsive and balanced.
The state-run corporation highlighted that future online gaming policies must encourage innovation and protect consumers without unduly restricting legitimate enterprises or compromising market integrity. Joined by other ranking officials like President and COO Wilma Eisma, PAGCOR reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a fair, transparent, and trusted regulatory environment.
