PetroWind Supports Technology-enabled Learning

PetroWind Energy Inc. (PWEI) turned-over 47 student tablets to Pawa Primary School (PPS) in Barangay Pawa, Nabas town, Aklan. The donation is part of PWEI’s Basic Education Support through Technology (BEST) project under its CSR campaign We Power H.E.L.P. (Health, Education, & Livelihood Program). BEST promotes the use of technology in primary education, particularly in teaching basic literacy.

“Our objective is for the students of PPS to improve their reading and writing skills with the help of digital tools. The tablets were installed with teacher-approved online and offline learning applications, which teachers can utilize to improve the students’ reading comprehension, writing skills, and even understand basic math concepts,” said Mr. Yrel V. Ventura, PetroWind’s Senior Manager for Environment and Community Relations. The Lenovo M7 tablets are ideal for educational activities with its HD screen, Quad-core processor, good battery performance, and seamless integration to mobile devices and computers.

Nabas Mayor Maria Fe T. Lasaleta graced the turn-over ceremony and expressed her deep gratitude to PWEI for its support to PPS. “The Pawa Primary School pupils are very lucky because PWEI invests in and supports their education. Instead of walking for 3 kms to a nearby school, now they have access to good primary education, including modern learning tools right here in Pawa.,” says Mayor Lasaleta.  Nabas Public Schools’ District Supervisor Mrs. Idy R. Pedrata also thanked PWEI for spearheading the project and expressed the hope that other schools in their district can also benefit from PWEI’s support. Parents of the beneficiaries and the teaching staff of PPS were also present during the event.

“PWEI has always been a staunch supporter of education, and projects like BEST clearly demonstrate this. And since we started here in 2012, the Pawa community has always been supportive of our wind power project. And so this donation is one of PWEI’s many ways of giving back and supporting the community,” expounds Mr. Ventura. One of PWEI’s adopted schools, the PPS offers Kindergarten to Grade 4 classes. Currently, PPS has 47 students and three (3) teachers.

PWEI is the developer and operator of the 36 MW Nabas-1 Wind Power Project, which started supplying clean power to the Visayas grid in June 2015. The company is a joint venture among PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC), EEI Power Corp. and Thailand’s BCPG Public Company Ltd. (BCPG). PGEC and EEI Power are affiliates of the Yuchengco Group of Companies.  PWEI recently won the Visayas wind allocation for its new 13.2MW Nabas-2 project in the first ever Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP) conducted by the Department of Energy. If all permits are released by government authorities on time, PWEI expects the Nabas-2 wind project to break ground early next year and be completed in 2024.
