Pharex’s Compliance Pouch seen to help people with high cholesterol

When payday comes, there’s a life-changing investment for patients with high cholesterol.

According to recent reports cited by the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development, bad cholesterol is becoming a major health concern in the Philippines. In fact, high levels of it have been responsible for thousands of cardiovascular deaths in Asia.

In another report, the Food Nutrition Research Institute said the risk of having high cholesterol increases with age. It conducted a study, in which its respondents who were aged 50 to 58 were found to have the highest cholesterol levels at 48 percent, and those between 20 and 29 years old had borderline-high to high cholesterol levels.

With this in mind, Pharex Health Corp., the most prescribed generic brand of medicines, introduces its unique 15-day Compliance Pouch for Cholesterol to help Filipino patients with high levels of bad cholesterol improve their adherence to their therapy.

“Complying with the medication schedule prescribed by your doctor will go a long way in preventing the worst consequences of bad cholesterol,” said Tomas Luke Marcelo Agana III, president and CEO of Pharex. “However, most patients fail to follow their medication program because of the challenges that come with costs.”

With the new pouch, Filipinos may now conveniently adhere to their therapy without sacrificing their budget. This means that they may get the same effective, quality maintenance medicine that’s 50 percent more affordable.

These quality medicines are available in a resealable foil pouch.

“The new Compliance Pouch is meant for patients who are currently taking their prescribed medication to control their cholesterol levels, only that it promotes value-added savings. Now, patients may already take their medicine anytime, anywhere,” Agana said.

The pouch is designed for patients who have bad cholesterol or low-density lipoprotein (LDL). This type of cholesterol builds up in the walls of the arteries, causing them to harden or become narrower. When left untreated, this may lead to a heart attack.

The prevention and control of bad cholesterol are essential to a person’s quality of life, as these keep him or her from acquiring more chronic diseases that may result from non-adherence to his or her therapy. Some of these health concerns include coronary heart disease, stroke, and chronic kidney disease.

Controlling high blood pressure and bad cholesterol is an important leap forward in achieving the global target of reducing 25 percent of premature deaths from non-communicable diseases by 2025, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

To help address this concern, Agana said patients need to play their part by simply following their medication-adherence process.

“One way to do this is to take the prescribed medication according to the schedule intended by your doctor,” he said. “Medication adherence has always been an important pillar in going back to your normal life. Taking your prescription only when needed only puts you to more health risks in the long run.”

“Taking your prescribed medication need not come at the expense of your health. With the new Pharex Compliance Pouch for Cholesterol, quality healthcare is now made affordable,” Agana said.
