The National Book Development Board (NBDB) will again hold its annual Pinoy Book Stop Tour on April 7 and 8 that will feature independent and campus-based bookstores within and south of Metro Manila, as well as community and university libraries and book museums.
Each book stop will host activities, such as book talks, poetry readings, and musical performances, to further promote local books and excellent titles, particularly the recent winners of the National Book Awards and the National Children’s Book Awards.
This year, the tour will start in Quezon City and end in Laguna province. Stops on the first day are the Marikina Book Museum cum Ethnology Center, the Quezon City Public Library, and the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Publishing House Bookstore. The second day will see stops in Laguna and Cavite provinces, namely the Bodhi Mind and Body Shop; the Komikero Komiks Museum; Books, Crafts, and Coffeeshop Los Baños; and the Department of Education Library Hub Laguna.
Writers participating in the tour include poet Isabela Banzon (Maybe Something); fictionist Mayette Bayuga (Sa Amin, Sa Dagat-dagatang Apoy); children’s book authors MJ Tumamac (Ngumiti si Andoy) and Ergoe Tinio (Salusalo Para Kay Kuya); Arch. Rino D.A. Fernandez (Diksiyonaryong Biswal ng Arkitekturing Pilipino); food writers Amy A. Uy and Jenny B. Orillos (Panaderia: Philippine Bread, Biscuit and Bakery Traditions); graphic novelist Gerry Alanguilan (Elmer); and poets Ericson Acosta (Mula Tarima Hanggang at Iba Pang Mga Tula at Awit), and Enrique Villasis (Agua).
Walk-in participants are welcome at every book stop.
The Pinoy Book Stop Tour is part of activities marking National Literature Month. The NBDB, together with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF), has been promoting Philippine literature, supporting the growth of independent book stores, and encouraging reading of excellent Filipino-authored books since the government declared April as National Literature Month in 2015.
