Prime Energy Completes Malampaya Maintenance and Expands Production

Prime Energy has successfully completed a month-long maintenance turnaround of the Malampaya Deep Water Gas-to-Power Project, with gas delivery resuming as planned on July 15. The extensive maintenance project involved complex engineering and inspection activities across offshore facilities, subsea infrastructure, and the onshore gas plant in Batangas to ensure operational reliability.

Beyond routine maintenance, this turnaround was crucial for preparing the facilities to integrate the Malampaya East-1 and Camago-3 wells, which are part of the Malampaya Phase 4 project. These new wells are expected to provide first gas in the fourth quarter of 2026, a development that will strengthen the domestic natural gas supply and extend the productive life of the field by up to six years.

Throughout the process, Prime Energy maintained close coordination with the Department of Energy, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, and power generation customers to manage the planned outage. This collaboration proved vital during Super Typhoon Inday, when Malampaya provided emergency gas supply to prevent power plant shutdowns, highlighting the project’s continued importance in supporting the nation’s energy needs and reducing reliance on imported fuels.
