Public urged to remain vigilant despite 25% drop in flu cases nationwide

The Department of Health (DOH) reported a 25-percent decline in influenza-like illness (ILI) cases nationwide over the past two weeks, even as the country continues to experience its seasonal rise in flu infections.

In an advisory posted Monday, the DOH said its latest surveillance data recorded 6,457 ILI cases from September 28 to October 11, 2025—significantly lower than the 8,628 cases logged during the same period last year.

Despite the improvement, the agency reminded the public that the flu season is still underway, typically peaking from the rainy months of June through the transition to the northeast monsoon or “amihan.”

To help curb flu transmission, the DOH launched a nationwide health education campaign titled “Trangkaso Bye-Bye!” which promotes simple but effective preventive habits such as proper handwashing, adequate rest, and healthy eating. Its key reminders include:

“Maghugas ng kamay, Trangkaso Bye-Bye!” (Wash your hands, goodbye flu!)
“Magpahinga sa bahay, Trangkaso Bye-Bye!” (Rest at home, goodbye flu!)
“Kumain ng prutas at gulay, Trangkaso Bye-Bye!” (Eat fruits and vegetables, goodbye flu!)

Influenza-like illness is a respiratory condition caused by viruses such as Influenza A and B, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and rhinovirus.

The DOH said the decline in cases reflects improved public adherence to health protocols and preventive measures. It also urged Filipinos to remain cautious by getting vaccinated, seeking early medical consultation, and practicing good hygiene.

The agency assured the public that it continues to coordinate with local government units and maintain active surveillance systems to ensure early detection and prompt response to flu-related illnesses.
