The Department of Transportation (DOTr) joined the Philippine Railways Institute (PRI), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Transportation Science Society of the Philippines (TSSP), and Asian Development Bank (ADB) at the 2nd Philippine Railway Conference last 7 November 2024.
Discussions at the conference centered on safety and security in the railways sector.
Transport Secretary Jaime J. Bautista shared his passion for safety not only in railways, but also in every sector of transportation. He reiterated his intent to push for the renaissance of the rail industry in the Philippines.
“This is what I mean when I said we are pushing for the renaissance of the once pioneering rail industry in the Philippines. With the collaboration of our friends from Japan, we can reclaim the glory of Philippine railways through modern and eco-friendly trains, comfortable and efficient rides while maintaining its status as most affordable public transport,” Sec. Bautista said.
For his part, JICA Philippines Chief Representative Sakamoto Takema, shared their commitment and cooperation in helping our country to create and build a reliable, safe and efficient railway system.
Philippine Railways Institute OIC-Executive Director Usec. Anneli Lontoc also shared her gratitude to JICA, TSSP, and ADB as partners that helped in advancing the country’s railway sector, “We are grateful for your support as we work towards providing the Filipino people with the comfortable, accessible, safe, sustainable, and affordable railway transportation system”.
