SM scholars enrolled in technical vocational courses at Don Bosco Training Center in Mati, Davao and Naga City recently completed training in machining, welding, general electrician and automotive.
In Naga City, a graduate tearfully shared his experience as a scholar recalling his days as an out-of-school youth because his parents told him after graduating from high school that they could not send him to school any more.
His cousins encouraged him to take the qualification examination at Don Bosco and the rest is history.
Some of the graduates were not able to join as they are already working in companies in Manila, Cavite, Batangas and Cebu.
SM Foundation’s technical vocational scholarship program aims to provide the youth with an option to pursue two-year courses in areas that are in demand in the work place.
Tech voc scholars can pursue specialization in Food and Beverage, Automobile Mechanic, Fitter Machinist, Electro-Mechanical Technician, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning, Small Arc Welding and Electromechanics.
They enjoy full tuition subsidy in any of SM Foundation’s partner schools, on the job internship and referral to industry partners after graduation, aside from fun-filled activities to help them develop holistically.
In 2016, SM Foundation increased its technical vocational scholarship grants by 1,000 more students. It supports over 1,600 technical-vocational scholars.
