The Philippines is gradually moving toward economic improvement under the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. While the country continues to face challenges, recent developments show steady progress that deserves recognition.

Reports presented during the 7th Economy and Development Council Meeting in Malacañan highlight positive trends in employment and poverty reduction. These figures reflect the government’s efforts to strengthen the economy and protect Filipino workers.

One of the clearest signs of improvement is the decline in the unemployment rate. From 10.3 percent in 2020, unemployment dropped to 4.7 percent in 2025, indicating that more Filipinos are now able to find work as economic activities expand.

Beyond job creation, the quality of employment has also improved. The underemployment rate fell to 13.6 percent from 16.2 percent in 2020, showing that more workers now have jobs that provide sufficient income and stability.

Poverty reduction is another area where progress is evident. Between 2021 and 2023, the number of poor Filipinos declined by 2.4 million, bringing the total down to 17.5 million. This suggests that economic growth is beginning to reach more households.

Inflation, which directly affects daily living expenses, has remained manageable. Despite global uncertainties, the government has taken steps to cushion the impact on consumers and maintain price stability.

The administration has also set clear long-term goals, including reducing poverty to single-digit levels by 2028. While ambitious, these targets signal a strong commitment to inclusive growth and social protection.

Looking ahead, the government plans to accelerate key programs in health, education, agriculture, and social services from 2026 to 2028. These sectors are critical to ensuring that economic gains translate into better living conditions for Filipinos.

Good governance remains central to this strategy. By maximizing technology, ensuring efficient use of public funds, and improving service delivery, the government aims to sustain and expand current gains.

Progress is not measured by numbers alone but also by leadership presence and public engagement. National leaders and their families often play a symbolic role in reinforcing stability and confidence.

On January 25, First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos attended the 21st Enrique Zobel Memorial Polo Cup at the Manila Polo Club. Her presence underscored respect for tradition, sportsmanship, and national heritage.

Overall, the direction of the country points toward improvement. With consistent policies, responsible governance, and continued public trust, the Philippines is taking steady steps toward a stronger and more inclusive future.
