Trade department requires contractors to attend PCAB seminars for license

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reiterated its call that contractors need to attend the two-day authorized managing officers (AMO) course as a requirement for the release of a Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB) license.

Director Peter Mangabat of DTI-Pangasinan said the AMO Course completion is now a requirement in the release of a PCAB license, whether its a renewal or an original issuance.

The 16-hour AMO course shall cover laws and regulations pertinent to the construction industry such as the National Building Code, Labor Laws, Taxation, Government Procurement Reform Act, Internal Revenue Code, Build-Operate-Transfer Law and the Local Government Code.

“We would like to correct the mistaken belief of contractors that possession of a DTI business name or SEC registration are sufficient to operate legitimately as contractor for private domestic construction,” Mangabat said.

Mangabat enjoined the unlicensed contractors to apply for a PCAB license to avoid possible penalties and future inconveniences.

This AMO course was designed to enhance the program of instilling a culture of safety among contractors and subcontractors and in line to professionalise practitioners in the industry.

This is also necessary for the safety of the contracting business of the public.
