A unique convention center, shaped like a surfing board, will soon rise on a 13 hectare-hilly spot in Barangay Sevilla, San Fernando City.
District Engr. Emil Ganaden of the Department Public Works and Highways-La Union’s first engineering said the proposed convention center will have an up to 900-seat capacity to cater to big events, exhibits and other celebrations.
The construction of the project started last month with an initial budget of P40 million and will be completed within seven months. At least another P70 million will be included in the 2017 budget to fully compete the project, Ganaden said
“This is a landmark project…. the first convention center in La Union,” Ganaden said.
He said the proposed design, courtesy of renowned architect Jessie Manosa, was inspired by La Union’s iconic character as surfing destination in the north. It boasts of foldable chairs to convert the events area into an even wider open space.
The convention center is part of La Union Rep. Victor Francisco Ortega’s local infrastructure program in partnership with the DPWH and the provincial government which owns the 13-ha. property where the structure will be built.
