Zamboanga City gets new school building from SM

THE Sta. Barbara Central School in Zamboanga City is the newest recipient of a new school building from SM Foundation. 

The pilot school of a special program of DepEd, the Madrassah Educational Program gets a two-storey, four-classroom building which will house among others the ALIVE Program (Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education) of DepEd.

There are 3,000 enrollees in Sta. Barbara Central School, 99 percent of whom are Muslims. The school has 72 regular teachers with 18 teachers under contract from DepEd to the Madrassah Program.

The classrooms are equipped with toilets with wash basins, electric fans, teacher’s table and chair, students’ chairs with special provision for left-handed students. 

A curvex whiteboard is provided for easy access to students seated at the back of the classroom.  

At the ground floor is a special toilet for PWD students, a clinic, mini-library and a room for music and arts.  Outside the building is a handwashing facility for 12. 

Officials of SMFI and SM Mall officially turned over the facility to DepEd, Sta. Barbara Central School officials and the Barangay Capt of Sta. Barbara.
