Cine Argentino an Argentine Film Festival in partnership with Film Development Council of the Philippines opened last September 6 at the Cinematheque Centre Manila with the film Me Casé Con Un Boludo (I Married a Dumbass) for the first screening. It is a story about relationship, deception, laughter, and the things we do for the sake of love.

Before the screening, FDCP Chairperson & CEO Liza Diño and Ambassador of the Argentine Republic of the Philippines José Néstor Ureta both told said Filipino culture have many similarities with that of Argentina, especially in the film industry.

According to Ureta, the film Me Casé Con Un Boludo was seen by at least two million people in Argentina in 2016. It was a huge hit for its romance-comedy elements and uniqueness of the plot.

Me Casé Con Un Boludo is a not-so-common yet interesting story about an unknown actress, Florencia, who falls in love with a famous actor, Fabien, and immediately gets married to each other. Chaos ensues as she later realize that she has fell in love with the character her husband portrayed and not with the real person.

Argentine Film Festival 2018 “Cine Argentino” is a five-day event from September 6-10, 2018 and is expected to successfully showcase the blurred lines between Filipino and Argentine cultures through film with this year’s edition revolving around relationship on family, friends, acquaintances, and dreams that are yet to unfold.

Philippines-Argentina relations started on August 27, 1948 or more than 70 years ago. There have been bilateral agreements on various areas of cooperation.

The Film Development Council of the Philippines is the national film agency responsible for film policies and programs to ensure economic, cultural, and educational development of the Philippine film industry and aims to encourage the production of quality films and conduct film-related events that enhance the skills of Filipinos.
