Bucheon City, South Korea – It has been a yearly harvests of Filipino film artists at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) in this city.
After several wins of Philippine directors in the previous years and Nikolas Red’s victory at the 26th BIFAN last year for “Posthouse,” it”s time for another Filipino director to win the Asian Discovery Award this year.
At the recently concluded Bucheon Industry Gathering (B.I.G.), an industry event of the Network of Asian Fantastic Films (NAFF), a component of BIFAN, Filipina filmmaker Gabriela Serrano brought home last night at the awarding ceremony of NAFF at the Koryo Hotel in this city the Asian Discovery plum.
“Please Bear with Me,” a story on the psyche of a mother, also won the Mocha Chai Award Post-Production Support and the Sitges FanPitch Award.
Serrano was the 2022 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival Best Director for her short film “Dikit,” a mix of the silent movies of Jose Nepomuceno, Father of Philippine Cinema and the Filipino folklore on aswang.
