She couldn’t believe what she heard among ahowbiz buddies that one of her best friends has just died.
“Patay na si Freddie Aguilar (Freddie Aguilar is dead),” exclaimed sexy actress Vida Verde Tuesday morning.
“Totoo ‘yon (That’s true),” added Vida, Catherine Mejia in real life.
“I wish it’s not true but I asked around, totoo nga (it’s indeed true),” said Verde.
“My God! We just saw each other recently then suddenly, he’s gone,” she quipped.
Freddie, Ferdinand Pascual Aguilar died of cardiac arrest at around 12 am Tuesday morning at the Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City where he was confined for a couple of months due to cardio-vascular ailment.
“Magkakasama lang kami kamakailan dahil dumating mula sa Alaska ang mga kapatid ko na tagahanga niya (We were just together recently when my sibling-fans of him from Alaska came home),” recalled the sexy star who made famous the films “Nene,” “Katawang Lupa,” “Raid: Casa,” among others in the mid-1980s.
According to Carhy (Vida’s pet name), Freddie courted her when she was just starting in the movies but she didn’t give in to his wooings.
According to entertainment writer Art Tapalla who is also a confidante of the singer, Aguilar was already not feeling well the last time he saw him in a restaurant with the Mejias.
Details of the funeral wake for Freddie will be announced later.
He was 72.
