Filipinos targeted in racist riots in Northern Ireland

The Philippine Embassy in London has confirmed that Filipinos were among those targeted during violent, racially motivated riots in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, following reports of an alleged assault involving two Romanian teenagers.

In a June 12 advisory, the embassy said a Filipino-owned vehicle was among those torched during the unrest. “It is regrettable that innocent individuals have been caught in the crossfire,” the statement read.

The embassy expressed deep concern and assured that it is working closely with local authorities to ensure the safety of Filipinos in the area.

Philippine Ambassador to the United Kingdom Teodoro Locsin Jr. is set to visit Ballymena on June 13 to assess the situation, meet the Filipino community, and ensure their protection.

The embassy urged Filipinos in affected areas to remain alert, follow official guidance, and reach out for immediate assistance if needed.

Local reports described the riots as “racist thuggery,” with homes and vehicles set ablaze during two consecutive nights of violence.
