Office for Transportation Security (OTS) Administrator Arthur Bisnar has issued a firm reminder to air travelers that airsoft and pellet guns are strictly banned in airports.
“Carrying such objects can cause disruptions to airport security screening operations and will result in immediate flagging by OTS security screening officers,” he told the Philippine News Agency.
Bisnar noted that these replica weapons closely resemble real firearms, which can cause alarm and delays during security procedures.
“To ensure a smooth travel experience, please refrain from bringing these items and check for the OTS prohibited items list before the scheduled departure,” he added.
The warning was prompted by a recent incident at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 on April 28, when security personnel detected a pellet gun during baggage X-ray screening.
The item was found in the luggage of a foreign passenger bound for Caticlan. The OTS said the pellet gun was confiscated and turned over to the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group for proper handling.
While the passenger was eventually cleared to board the flight, the OTS emphasized that such violations can result in unnecessary delays and added scrutiny.
