The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has been named Currency Manager of the Year by Central Banking, a renowned London-based institution that provides insights and training to more than 140 central banks and their partners across the globe.
In a statement released last week, the BSP shared that the award was announced on March 20, 2025, with the formal ceremony held on June 11, 2025.
The recognition highlights the BSP’s efforts to maintain a stable supply of secure and reliable banknotes for the country’s expanding economy. Central Banking also commended the central bank’s rollout of polymer banknotes and its recent international collaborations.
Among the initiatives cited were the BSP’s agreements with Banque de France and Bundesdruckerei, Germany’s state-owned banknote printer. Signed in October and November 2024, the agreements cover payments and currency management, security, and banknote production.
Assistant Governor Mary Anne Lim received the award on behalf of the BSP, saying, “Our collaborative efforts with fellow central banks and government-owned printworks have made our currency management robust and resilient.”
The BSP’s partnership with Note Printing Australia, the Reserve Bank of Australia’s printing subsidiary, for the production of the Philippines’ first polymer banknotes also received recognition.
“Banknotes remain vital in our developing economy. We’re committed to ensuring our people have enough of them and have faith in them,” BSP Governor Eli Remolona Jr. said.
