CBCP calls for prayers for peace

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines has urged clergy nationwide to offer special prayers for peace in the Middle East amid ongoing tensions in the region.

In a statement, Socrates Mesiona, chair of the Episcopal Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People, called on diocesan migrant offices and parishes to include prayers for peace in Sunday Masses or through dedicated adoration hours.

“We firmly believe in the transformative power of prayer, as modeled by the Church’s unwavering intercession for peace amid violence,” he said.

Mesiona also asked church leaders to keep a close watch on families of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and extend pastoral support during the crisis.

“This may include spiritual accompaniment, sacramental ministry, community outreach, and coordination with your local Caritas and local government units to address both immediate needs and long-term resilience,” he added.

He likewise commended government efforts to safeguard affected OFWs, recognizing the need for collaboration between state and Church.

“We commend their challenging work and gratefully acknowledge their request for collaboration from the Church, particularly in offering moral and spiritual support to our OFWs and their families,” Mesiona said.
