Davao artist wins top prize in video contest

A visual artist from Tagum City, Davao del Norte, flew all the way to Manila to receive the top prize, which came with a ₱100,000 cash gift in recently held awarding ceremony for the FFCCCII Tiktok Video Competition for young people.

Mark Capareda was properly attired in a white Chinese-inspired formal dress shirt as he received his prize.

Capareda’s entry, The Fusion of Filipino & Chinese Traditions, was hailed as a visually stunning masterpiece blending festivals, cuisine, and traditions in a dazzling display of unity. 

The second Prize (₱50,000) went to Content producer Emmanuel Labrador of Navotas, whose video,

PHChina50years, is a moving tribute to five decades of diplomacy, trade, and camaraderie between the two countries. 

Third prize (₱30,000) was awarded to Richard Samulde of South Cotabato for Magkaibigan (Pilipinas at Tsina), a  heartwarming narrative of cross-cultural friendship. 

The Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII), led by President Dr. Victor Lim, in collaboration with special guests from the Chinese Embassy headed by Minister Councilor Wang Yulei, celebrated the extraordinary talent of Filipino youth at the TikTok Video Competition Awarding Ceremony held July 5, 2025 at Luxent Hotel in Quezon City. 

In his keynote speech, President Victor Lim said, “These videos are more than just content—they are bridges. Through creativity, our youth have strengthened the bond between two nations, proving that friendship knows no borders.” 

The project celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Philippine-China Diplomatic Relations anchored on promoting economic cooperation and friendship.

The event comes close on the heels of the recent induction of newly-elected FFCCCII officers, where President Bongbong Marcos urged the Federation to help promote better economic cooperation, trade and diplomacy between the Philippines and China. 

The competition, open to young creators aged 18 to 35 nationwide, aims to showcase the rich cultural ties and enduring friendship between the Philippines and China. It drew hundreds of entries from all over the country.

Special awards worth P20,000 each were presented to the following:  

Ricardo Todio Jr. of Leyte whose work, Dugong Tsino, Pusong Pinoy, was named President’s Choice.

Aaliyah Mara Adriano of Paombong, Bulacan, for Friendship Beyond Borders; Liwileen Dalupang (Tarlac) for Pengyou Hanggang Dulo (Dugong Filipino, Pusong Tsino); Aresteo Antalad (Navotas) for A Wish Not Written on Khoom Fay (Sky Lanterns);  Misra Aina (Sulu) For PhChina50years – Eleven creators received Consolation Prizes of P10,000 each.

FFCCCII also announced the next Tiktok Youth Video competition now accepts entries offering the same exciting cash prizes.

Deadline is on Sept. 30, 2025 midnight at 12 AM. The contest is open to Filipino citizens from 18 to 35 years old.

Videos should not exceed 2 minutes on the theme, “Chinese Contributions to Philippine Progress.
