The government has rolled out the new digital National Senior Citizen ID (NSCID) through the eGovPH app, giving over 12 million elderly Filipinos faster and easier access to government services.
Launched by the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) at The Manila Hotel, the NSCID will automatically appear in the app for those aged 60 and above who are registered with the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys). This removes the need for extra paperwork or trips to multiple offices.
NCSC Chairperson Mary Jean Loreche said the digital ID is more than just a card—it’s a symbol that senior citizens are not left behind in the country’s shift to digital governance.
To address connectivity issues and help seniors navigate the technology, the NCSC will conduct nationwide digital literacy training and deploy information officers to assist with app downloads and registration.
DICT Secretary Henry Aguda assured that free Wi-Fi and improved connectivity will soon reach even the most remote areas, in line with the president’s directive for nationwide digital access by the end of next year.
