Malacañang assured the public that the Department of Health (DOH) is closely monitoring reports of a plague outbreak in Russia and is taking into account recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said last week that the DOH is monitoring developments and will implement additional measures if necessary to protect the public.
Castro said the health department has been complying with monitoring requirements to help address public concerns over the reported outbreak.
The Palace official made the statement during a press briefing at the Philippine Embassy in Singapore on Oct. 7, ahead of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s five-day working visit.
Castro also quipped that the reported Russian plague might eventually be blamed on Marcos, although she did not identify whom she was referring to.
