DSWD sends over ₱600,000 in aid to Davao Oriental quake victims

Following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck the town of Manay, Davao Oriental on Friday morning, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) immediately deployed assistance worth ₱615,000 to affected communities.

The initial relief included 50 family food packs (FFPs) to be cooked into hot meals through the agency’s mobile kitchen and 606 boxes of ready-to-eat food (RTEF) for displaced residents.

The DSWD Field Office in Davao Region (FO-11) also dispatched its mobile command center and quick response team to coordinate with local government units (LGUs) and conduct rapid assessments.

As of press time, the Disaster Response Operations Management, Information and Communication reported that 15,868 families, or 78,430 individuals, were affected by the powerful tremor. Around 1,583 families, or 7,915 people, are currently housed in five evacuation centers.

The DSWD assured Davaoeños that more aid is ready for deployment. FO-11 maintains a stockpile of 103,614 family food packs, 5,000 boxes of ready-to-eat food, and thousands of non-food items such as family, hygiene, kitchen and sleeping kits, tents, and tarpaulin rolls prepositioned across the region.
