Janine Gutierrez sparkles at 81st Venice Film Festival or why Lav Diaz’s “Phantosmia” nearly shelved

In her debut at the Venice International Film Festival-one of the oldest and most prestigious events, in Italy-Filipino actress Janine Gutierrez was ecstatic of her appearance in the 81st edition of the Venizia.

Janine’s starring movie role in “Phantosmia,” a masterpiece of internationally renowned Lav Diaz, was shown in the non-competition section of the festival.

According to Hazel Orencio, one of the members of the cast of the film, she is thankful that her project has been chosen by the illustrious world cinema event.

“Natapos din. Akala namin, walang tutulong sa amin dahil nag-back out ang financier namin (We were able to get it done. We thought no one would help us out because our initial investor backed out),” said Hazel who also dabbles in the management of Sine Olivia, the production company of Lav.

Hazel was and still is happy for Gutierrez.

They both enjoyed and took pride in representing the Philippines in the fest.

Lav, together with Janine, Hazel, Ronnie Lazaro, Paul Jake Paule, among other Filipino contingent, were presented during the gala showing of the film.

Gutierrez’ gown was exclusively made for her by ace fashion designer Inno Sotto.

The 2024 Venice ended last September 7.
