The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and local government units (LGUs) need to work together to address transport issues such as right-of-way and Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) to facilitate implementation of transport infrastructure projects.
Transport Secretary Jaime J. Bautista said DOTr need to closely coordinate with LGUs on ironing out issues on transport projects.
“We also need to intimately coordinate with local governments in planning and implementing these projects, most especially at resolving right-of-way issues,” Sec. Bautista said during the recent Local Governance Summit.
Sec. Bautista said DOTr hopes LGUs see the urgency of approving LPTRPs in their jurisdiction to enable the agency to proceed with the next phases of the Public Transport Modernization Program (PTMP).
“One of our urgent concerns today is the issuance of Local Public Transport Route Plan by LGUs. This is central to the second component—route rationalization—of the PTMP,” the transport chief stressed.
“We hope LGUs understand the urgency of issuing these LPTRPs to consolidated transport groups so they can modernize their fleet,” he added.
Sec. Bautista hopes LGUs will help promote passenger safety in all modes of transport.
