LTFRB chief vows to resolve 37,000 pending cases before year-end

Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Chair Vigor Mendoza II has committed to resolving more than 37,000 pending motions and petitions filed with the agency before the end of the year.

Mendoza said last week that he has directed all LTFRB division chiefs to act on at least 4,000 pending motions and petitions within the next 30 days as part of efforts to clear the agency’s backlog.

“On the part of the LTFRB Board, we will employ all means to sign off all the orders and decisions on or before December 15, 2025,” Mendoza said.

He noted that the directive was issued in line with Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez’s instruction following a report on the backlog submitted to his office earlier this month.

“Secretary Lopez was bothered by this report and immediately ordered us to solve the backlog in the soonest possible time since this may have something to do with the public transportation problems not only in Metro Manila but also in other parts of the country,” Mendoza said.

The report, which detailed the status of all pending motions and petitions, was completed shortly after Mendoza assumed the LTFRB’s top post in early October.

He said the review was prompted by concerns raised by transport groups during consultations with the agency.

According to the report, around 33,000 cases remain pending before the LTFRB Board, while another 4,000 are still being processed in various divisions nationwide.

“We have to put this problem to rest because by doing so, this will certainly ease the burden of both commuters and those from the transport sector, particularly operators and drivers of public utility vehicles,” he said.

In addition to clearing the existing backlog, Mendoza also ordered that newly filed motions and petitions be resolved within 15 days from the date of filing to prevent similar delays in the future.
