LTO probes Cavite crash

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned the driver and the registered owner of a Toyota Vios that figured in a series of collisions in Noveleta, Cavite last week, prompting a formal investigation and preventive measures.

LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II confirmed on Friday that a Show Cause Order (SCO) was issued to both the female driver and the male registered owner of the vehicle.

“We were informed that the female driver lost her consciousness as a result of this incident. We want to know what happened, and in the meantime that investigation is being conducted, her driver’s license is preventively suspended for 90 days,” Mendoza stated.

Based on the agency’s initial investigation, the car was traveling toward Cavite City when it unexpectedly surged forward and collided with an oncoming vehicle.

“After the incident, the driver appeared to have put the vehicle in reverse and accelerated anew, hitting pedestrians and a light post,” Mendoza said.

The vehicle continued toward the Noveleta town proper and later crashed into a parked tricycle.

Authorities reported that at least five individuals, including the unconscious driver, sustained injuries and were rushed to various hospitals for medical treatment.

The LTO has ordered the driver to submit a notarized written explanation justifying why her driver’s license should not be revoked due to reckless driving and her alleged unfitness to operate a motor vehicle.

The car’s registered owner has also been instructed to appear alongside the driver at the LTO for further inquiry. Additionally, the driver has been directed to surrender her license “in the soonest possible time.”

As part of precautionary measures, both the driver’s license and the vehicle have been placed under alarm status to block any related transactions while the investigation is ongoing.
