President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday welcomed actor George Clooney and international human rights lawyer Amal Clooney during a courtesy call at Malacañan Palace, where they discussed shared advocacies including press freedom and the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI).
The President, accompanied by First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos and Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, underscored the administration’s commitment to safeguarding press freedom in the Philippines.
The discussion also touched on emerging technologies, with Ms. Clooney emphasizing AI’s potential to widen access to justice. President Marcos agreed, stressing the importance of responsible regulation to ensure AI advancements are both ethical and secure.
Before concluding their meeting, the President reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to protecting press freedom and expressed hope that the couple’s visit to the Philippines would be meaningful and memorable.
The Clooneys came to Manila to headline the recently concluded Social Good Summit 2025, where they spoke on global issues affecting free speech and civil liberties.
