Mazda Philippines launched its Mazda Brand Evolution with the introduction of two mid-size SUVs that heralded its focus towards electrification last Friday at the huge The Fifth Ballroom at the Rockwell Makati.
Mazda Philippines president and CEO Steven Tan presented the two models of the Hybrid CX-60 – in diesel and petrol with a 48v electric motor – which are now available in the market. The much bigger CX-90 will be available in the country before the year ends. The gas-engine CX-60 is pegged at P2.79-million while the diesel-fed engine can be had for P2.89-million.
Tan said that by pairing the high-capacity new generation Skyactive-D 3.3L engine with a new 8-speed automatic transmission and a 48v mild hybrid system, the CX-60 significantly improved both driving performance and fuel economy.
The Skyactiv-D 3.3 is designed to be an engine with ample torque that can be controlled at will so drivers can truly enjoy the drive, confidently hitting the accelerator without worrying about using too much fuel.
The all-new CX-60 is capable of achieving 22 kms to a liter due to the pairing of the 48v MHEV system with the new low-resistance 3.3L diesel engine.
Tan cited three things that they would want to achieve with the CX-90. First is an option that customers who would want to step up from owning a CX-5 before; a new option for those considering, or who have already purchased, a European vehicle; and to further refine the product value based on human-centric approach to development.
Tan also presented top Mazda officials from Japan who were responsible for the making of the CX-60 and they were: Takira Tamatani, the chief designer of the CX-60; and two other managers – Kohei Shibata and Mitsuru Wakiie.
The all-new and much bigger CX-90, which is yet to hit the Philippine market before the end of the year, was also presented during the luncheon event. This car will evolve as a good partner of families who are taking a positive step in their life as it enhances the quality of their family time.
The CX-90 aims to significantly improve the quality as a new generation of family car and stretch the emotional value to the level that attracts affluent customers. The price of the CX-90 will be determined when it enters the country by November.
